The philosophy of the Educational Team at Germantown ES is:
K-2 LEARN to READ ~ 3-6 READ to LEARN
The Team believes that reading is the most important skill that a child can learn. Multiple measures of student academic achievement are used to identify students who may need Academic Intervention Services. These measures include: universal screening, teacher observations, parent input, grades and performance on state assessments. Academic Intervention Services may include: direct instruction in a small group, re-teaching, pre-teaching and/or implementation of an alternative instructional program.
Students at Germantown Elementary School receive instruction in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and health in their classroom. Students go to special classrooms for instruction in physical education, music, art, computer and library skills. Character education is embedded in the variety of social programs that are implemented at each grade level by the school’s counseling team.
The personalized nature of the school empowers students to learn in a supportive and collaborative environment that encourages academic excellence and fosters a desire for lifelong learning. Germantown Elementary School offers a comprehensive educational program that strives to meet the diverse needs of all students. The district is committed to providing students with a curriculum that meets or exceeds the New York State Learning Standards. The Education Team constantly strives for excellence in education through evaluation, feedback and revision of programs and services.
Germantown Elementary School serves 315 students in grades K-6. The school is housed in the southwest section of Germantown Central School which is a single K-12 school building located near the eastern bank of the Hudson River about eighty miles north of New York City. Columbia County residents living in five rural towns make up the school’s community: Clermont, Gallatin, Germantown, Livingston, and Taghkanic.
